Tooth decay

Tooth decay is unsympathetic to
hard like teeth.

I spent decades applying Orajel,
not feeling what calls for a root canal.

The canine cracked and crumbled,
calcium flaking on dry lips as I said,
“I don’t know. It’s more than that.”
